Squirrels is our pre-school room, which cares for children from around 40 months until they leave us to start school. Squirrels offers a wide range of activities which are both adult and child led, designed to develop key skills across all areas of the curriculum. Carefully planned activities and fun experiences build each child’s personal and social skills and different role play areas allow them to explore their own interests. They learn to serve themselves during some mealtimes and our fully qualified, highly experienced Early Years Teacher works closely with the Squirrels team introducing some more structured learning, such as phonics, writing skills, recognising letters and numbers and learning about the world around us.
Squirrels has a designated area where the children regularly enjoy Cooking Club, donning their aprons to prepare and cook a range of different foods. ‘Show and Tell’ sessions are always popular, where the children bring an item in from home and tell their friends about it. As always at Woodlands, the children in Squirrels enjoy lots of outdoor fun every day in their own dedicated play area, and Forest School activities, such as making hot chocolate around the campfire and exploring the natural world.
The children grow in confidence and independence while learning and having fun together, giving them the best possible grounding for school. Squirrels.
