Squirrels (term of turning 3 years until their journey to school)
Squirrels is our preschool room, which cares for children from the term of turning 3 years until their journey to school.
Squirrels offers a wide range of activities which are both adult and child led, designed to develop key skills across all areas of the curriculum. Carefully planned activities and fun experiences build each child’s personal and social skills and different role play areas allow them to explore their own interests. They learn to serve themselves during some mealtimes and our fully qualified, highly experienced Early Years Teacher works closely with the Squirrels team introducing further learning through play. Children embark on maths in play, develop a love of literacy, explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) in a fun, hands on way, children develop their confidence to speak and listen and articulate their own thoughts and ideas!
Squirrels has a designated area where the children regularly enjoy Cooking Club, donning their aprons to prepare and cook a range of different foods. As always at Woodlands, the children in Squirrels enjoy lots of outdoor fun every day in their own dedicated play area, and Forest School activities, such as making hot chocolate around the campfire and exploring the natural world.
The children grow in confidence and independence while learning and having fun together, giving them the best possible grounding for school. Squirrels is perfect if you are looking for preschool Newbury and the surrounding areas.
As part of our extra curricular activities, 'Sporty Little Stars' run by Jenny provides multi-sports coaching for preschool-aged children, focusing on fundamental movement skills, confidence, and physical development. Our structured yet fun sessions introduce a variety of sports while promoting social skills, coordination, and a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.
