Wider Community

Links with the wider community/enhancement activities

At Woodlands Day Nursery we are continuing to develop our links with the wider community and ensure that the children benefit from a broad range of experiences.

Weekly Boogie Mites

Our weekly Boogie Mites sessions enable children to explore music in a safe environment, with enjoyment at the heart of it all. Each term they are taken on a magical musical journey, with themes running alongside the nurseries current focuses and enabling each child to make progress across the session. Lizzie Lock runs our Boogie Mites sessions across every room within the nursery, enabling the children to become familiar with her and progress their musical skills as they move between the rooms, building upon skills that they have learnt.

“Boogie Mites tried-and-tested Music Programmes provide the ultimate resource for giving children the opportunity to boost learning, development and wellbeing through music.” BoogieMites.co.uk

Weekly Sports Session

We also run a weekly sports session through FootySkills4Kids run by Lawrence who provides sessions that cover a wide range of sports, building the children’s physical skills week on week and embedding the importance of physical activity. We currently run these sessions within both our Hedgehogs and Squirrels rooms throughout the year, supporting the children with not only their physical ability but also their personal social and emotional skills within group games.

Christmas 2022

Each year at Woodlands we link closely with the Food Bank and take part in their annual Christmas appeal. In 2022 we are took part in their 12 days of Christmas campaign and in early December took five of our preschool children to deliver all the donations we had collected. Upon delivering our donations, we were given a guided tour of the warehouse, providing the children with a wonderful insight into the job that all the volunteers do daily and how we can all help to support our community..Please keep an eye out for all the wonderful festive experiences and activities we do at Woodlands.

Kennet & Avon Waterways Organisation

We have also recently made links with the Kennet & Avon Waterways Organisation who are planning to visit us in the new year and adapting their current River School ARK project that many schools around West Berkshire benefit from and providing a more tailored session for Squirrels who will learn all about how we can help to protect the wildlife that live within and around the water.

Other Charities

We are proud to sponsor Newbury Rugby Club and Falkland Cricket Club.
The nursery is also extremely passionate about supporting charities and take part in regular fundraising for a range of charities from Children in Need to The Alzheimer’s Society and more recently we have become involved in with The Children’s Air Ambulance. Within our main car park, we currently have a clothing bank in aid of The Children’s Air Ambulance and are looking forward to our ‘Big wear it green’ charity day, where not only do we all get involved by wearing something green for the day but we also get to meet the charities mascot Blade!
