Squirrels’ is our pre-school room and is an ideal setting for your child when they getting ready for the transition to school.
Laid out in a typical manner of a reception year class, and managed by a qualified full-time nursery teacher, the children still learn through play, but are also introduced to other activities more associated with an education environment, such as phonics.
This fun and engaging environment is made even more welcoming by our fish, guinea pigs and not forgetting “Georgie” our loveable Red Setter who attends nursery most days. Studies show that dogs can help improve a child’s self-esteem and confidence and the results at Woodlands have been very positive.
Building your child’s independence is high on the agenda in Squirrels so along with the tactics used in our other nursery rooms we now introduce further independence building approaches such as a registration board where you child will record their own attendance on our chart and food trays which are tagged with your child’s name and it is their responsibility to find their meals. These slight changes can also help them settle at school because they already have the same routines.
In Squirrels, we offer FREE French lessons, Debutots and Kindaroo on a set day during term time. These complimentary activities are in addition to all of the daily activities which the children take part in and our use of topics and themes.
As an extra special treat, we also arrange for a pantomime to be performed in the Squirrel’s room every year at Christmas time – and we also try to arrange a few additional surprises throughout the year.
